View Full Version : OP Pro crashes on Win2K server
Hi!
I’ve installed the free version on both Win2K workstation and server and it works fine. So I decided to purchase the pro version.
On the workstation it works at once! (uninstall, reboot, install / language=German, reboot). But on the Server it crashes immediately after starting. I tried to install it with language=English, no chance.
After many hours I've discovered that the reason is “opst_ui.dll”. If I replace it with the one of the free version then it works. But in this case I am not having the pro version.
Please help.
Thank you very much in advance
I am using Win2K with sp2
Hi and welcome.
Save your configuration.cfg file. Shut down Outpost and uninstall it.
Run Dmuts reg cleanerfound here, (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2951) and any other regcleaners you have. Reboot. Install Outpost Pro. Try to surf in rules wizard mode.
Let me know.

dula, any news? does OP Pro work on your server?
Also what do you mean under "crashes"? BSOD or what? any error messages?
Thank you for your reply.
I did every thing as you told me. But the program stil crashes!
Crash: after starting the program it stops immediatly without any error messages.
Hi again. Please go here, (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=5bc64734438ed49083c9f535c46af5%3C br%20/%3E8f&threadid=980) and download the debug module and install it.
Also could you please check your event logs and see if there is any useful information there.
Anyway, after you get the debug installed, please follow Mikhails instructions for reporting it to Agnitum.
You might also look at a mini dump after an incident and see if it tells something.
We do not like unhappy customers, so we'll get it figured out. :)

dula, did you ever have ZA installed?
Still
I've installed the debug plugin, but no success because OP crashes immediately after starting (no icon in the system tray!).
Daniel, what is ZA?!

Daniel, what is ZA?!Recently, one user contacted our tech support with the same problem: he uninstalled his ZA and installed Outpost. His Outpost also didn't start, no icon, no anything.
He checked his registry and found ZA's entries there. After complete clean of the registry from ZA traces, he reinstalled Outpost and everything was fine...

I have the same problem here. On Win2k Advanced Server, the latest PRO version ( the 30 day trial ) fails to start. I can start the service manually ( which is set to automatic, but after logon it appears already stopped ) , but as soon as I start the application, the service stops immediately. No message.
But I managed to instally successfully the free version, and it's working fine.
I previously had installed Kerio Personal firewall, I don't know if it may be uninstalled not correctly, but I think if this is the problem, it should apply also to the free version.
I will see if I can get a programmer to look at this thread.
Hang in there. Help is on the way.

I thought OP didn't work w/servers?
I think for some while now, most people have had some success with using Outpost with 2k server.
I don't know what the official stand on it is.

Now that I've had some sleep, IIRC OP is not supported for servers and at some point in the future it will be. Anyone remember?

The latest official stand I heard is that there is a server version coming in the future. If some users have got it to work on a server, perhaps they will check in and reply.

Dula, do you have SP2 installed for W2K Server?

don't know about Dula, but my Win2K Server ( I have the same problem ) is SP2. Tomorrow I will try on another Win2K Server and will let you know if the PRO version is working.
On my server, before Oupost, I tried successfully Sygate Personal Firewall ( no problem ), Zone Alarm ( some small problems ), and Kerio ( no problem at all ).
thanks

hmmm!
I have had OP running on W2K server for about two weeks now and it has run flawlessly. However, my configuration is very basic - allow all LAN and completely block internet.

No idea... But first of all we should understand how it crashes:
a) with or without error message
b) does the crash happen when it runs both as a service and as a regular application
c) do you see any logs in Windows Event Log after crash?

2. after starting outpost.exe "with double click" it stops immediately without any error messages
c) no

the service starts and keep running but there is no icon in the system tray so I can not admin outpost. How did you know that the service was running?
When Outpost crashed (the icon disappeared) then try to go to any website. Are the ads blocked?
Do you try to run Outpost under Admin account?
Do you see Outpost icon after startup? If you do, then click ctrl-alt-del. Do you see outpost there?
As I understood, Outpost crashes as soon as you try double click on the icon. Right?

1) The service does not start autmatically at startup or login. So Ieent to "Service" and started it manually. The service keeps having the status "started", sure the window were refreshed. outpost.exe appears in the task manager.
2) The icon does not disappear. It does not apear at all!
The ads are not blocked.
3) I've tried to run it under admin acount or privileg users. But the result is the same: no success.
4) no!
5) yes. The hourglass appeas for few seconds and nothing happens. No icon, no outpost.exe in task manager.
