View Full Version : Viewing compressed pages?
Hi!
I am regularly visiting the following forum:
http://838.rapidforum.com/
It is using compressed data to reduce the server load (some kind of gzip in the http 1.1 header). The owner restricts the acces during prime-time (17:00 until 22:00, GMT+1 that is) to people/browser supporting and using the compression, while excluding the others (fair enough in my eyes!).
Since installing Outpost, my browser can not receive these compressed pages anymore. As soon as i shut down Outpost completely (disable does not help) I can access the page again.
What can I do to access them with Outpost running?
What settings do I have to tweak?
I am using Win98, IE 6, Netscape 7 PR1, Opera 6-05.
Thanks for your help!

Hello xout,
Outpost filters don't work with GZiped web pages yet, so they maybe causing the probelms. Try going there with Ads, Content, and Active Content turned off.
I turned off all PlugIns, but unfortunately, that did not change anything for me, I still get no access.
I know that it works with ZoneAlarm, but I do certainly prefer Outpost!!!

Is there nothing being blocked? have you checked the blocked logs?
Did you clear your browser cache before going there?

I can't read the page as its not in English but there's a line at the bottom about JavaScript. Do you allow this site JavaScript, if it's a bulliten board like here you will probably need to allow it aleast JavaScript and Cookies.
This could be the problem. Allow the site these things, clear your cache and go back there.
Well, I have cleared the cache now and tried it again, but no, it didn't change anything.
No, there does not turn up anything in the "blocked" list.
Did you try reaching the page?
< Ups, I am too slow, sorry>
Yes, it is a German page, It just says that the "go back" button will only work if Javascript is enabled.
I have got more enabled than probably secure (Javascript, Cookies,etc..). It works without problem as soon as I shut down Outpost.
It is a forum like this, and you can either pay for it, then the restrictions drop away, then the server accept requests for not comppressed pages, or unpaid ->then they will accept only compressed page-requests during prime-time. The forum I want to reach ist unpaid! But I am sure it is not a problem with ads being on the page, but with the compression itself.
Does Outpost usually support compressed pages? I could not really find anything written down for it.

It's not written down about Gzip and not being filtered by Outpost but Mikhail has mentioned in other threads reguarding OP that GZIP ed pages are not filtered.
I can't think of much more you could try, the gzipped web pages, do they get sent still on port 80? I don't really know that much about gzipping of web pages.
Well, I probably know even less about that!
I can't tell you, but I can try finding out from the owner/moderator of ww.rapidforum.com, who hosts the forum.
Well, I am off for dinner and offline for the rest of the day/night.
Thanks for your help!

Hi xout,
I could access the forum (and I understand it;-{)}) can you tell me when/where do you have problems? I accessed to saturday around 23.00 with OP-Pro, IE6 under Win-XP-Pro (finally;-{)}). I normally have everything disabled and run in "block most" mode.
Its about volleyball or am I in the wrong forum?

Not that I understand a word on that forum, but I was able to access the link that you posted, and a couple of forums there. I have WinXP pro, OP, and IE6.
Was there a specific forum that you can't access?
Yes you have got the right forum, it is about Volleyball.
Unfortunately you hve gotten there "too late".
The forum requires compressed pages only between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. (german local time), from what I can read your posting was outside this time-window.
Also accessing other forums might be possible (for me too) if they are paid for. The restrictions are only for the "free" (ad-sponsored)forum.
So if you could drop by during this time of the day, maybe you experience the same thing I do?
Thanks for your help.

P.S: Fot the time difference: This post is written at 8 a.m. local time!
Hi!
I have found a thread for my problem:
http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1664
I guess there is not much more to be said about this.
Thanks for your trouble!
