I thought id share this with people here (I dont know whether its been done before).Ive posted on alt comp .anti-virus about it but as of yet havent recieved an answer ,but with experimenting and thanks to outposts debug plug in ive found the answer. It concerns the update feature in AVG which is longwinded e.g you have to open control centre >update manager>update. Also the update scheduler is not very good.Well Ive found the path for the AVG update and I now run it directly from net launch without having to open AVG at all.The advantages of doing it this way ..is that you can run it from a third party launcher that will update it at any time. All you have to do is make a shortcut to desktop from Avginet.exe (which is in the grisoft folder.)Then right click the desktop shortcut and click properties.Change the path too....

"C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\AVGINET.EXE" /NORM"

and save it.You can now update with that shortcut without opening AVG.You can also put that shortcut into any third party launcher.I now have it in "net launch".It launches automatically after 60secs.Anyway as you can see there are various possibilities this way ,which may suit some people better than AVG update scheduler.

bassbag,

I have always used the automatic update feature of AVG and never had a problem.
I don't understand why you need to go to all this trouble?

Hi..Derrek...
The problem with the auto update is if you log on to net (im on dial up )after the specific time or before the specific time entered it doesnt work unless you are actually online at the time entered.Ive always done it manually but as I say ,I have to open control centre etc. This way ,as as i conect to the internet, (well 60 secs after) ,AVG auto update is automatically launched without me having to do anything. Also using this parameter you ould set it to update through third party applications as many times during the day as you wanted.

Bassbag,

I get the picture now (I have cable).

Good solution for dial up.

I should have mentioned it was mainly for dial up in the first message.I think im one of the few that doesnt have cable (or a mobile phone for that matter) ...im still waiting for the price to drop...lol..:)
