View Full Version : myIE browser is a *preset* -- WOW!

I am a long-time user of Opera but version 6.05 seems to hang a lot, despite re-installs. So I am forced to use Int Explorer 6.0 as my main browser.

I missed Opera's bells & whistles, so I tried several browsers that use Int Explorer's engine, but offer added conveniences. I tested Avant, Crazy Browser, & myIE.

myIE is the one I selected. It is grrrreat!!!

Imagine my surprise when it turned out that Outpost had a preset JUST for myIE! That ended my search -- if OP likes myIE, it's got to be okay, right? Right!

Hmmmm... does anyone know WHY OP has a preset for this particular, relatively unknown browser? I sure would be interested in finding out.

Also, the author's web page link gives a 404. I'd like to let the fellow know how much I appreciate his work. Does anyone know where he hangs out nowadays. A google search on myIE got me lots of hits, but none of them looked like the author's home page.

Oh... if you want to give it a spin, Web Attack is where I did the download...

The original programmer of myIE is no longer developing it, but it has spawned a new project called "MyIE2", which is still in beta. It can be found here:

Thanks for the link, Mark. Have you tried the beta of MyIE2? If so, how do you like it?

I want to send those fellows a donation, but am hesitant to use Pay Pal -- I read some not-so-good-stuff about them. Such as once they get your credit card number, they can get a bit overbearing.

Anybody... is Pay Pal safe to use or not?

I'm using MyIE2 last 6 month - it's great, moved to it from NetCaptor. OP has presets for many good applications, look into preset.lst.

DMUT - Thanks for the info. I am also now using MyIE2.

One thing -- when I shift-left-click to open a link on a new Tab, the focus always remains on the old Tab.

I would prefer that the focus would always move to the NEW Tab.

Is there any setting that will get MyIE2 to do that?

Hi bellgamin
"Options"-"MyIE2 Options"-"Window"- check "Activate New Window"

DMUT - It worked. Verily, thou art a genius!

Have you noticed that revised settings to the background & colors of Tabs *expire* after the current session?

That is, the program doesn't remember the changes.

It's a bug I can live with.

Hi guys,

nice program, very quick.
I moved over to Opera (I really like beta 7) because I don't trust IE. This one uses the IE core. Can it be trusted enough?

Hi Meneer -- You are correct about MyIE2's quickness. I'm a dial-up user so browser speed is really important to me.

I timed Opera 6.05 versus MyIE2 on several slow-loading forum sites [such as Wilders] & MyIE2 won hands-down in every case.

I haven't tried Opera7 yet.

As to how safe MyIE2 is, who knows? I always stay up-to-date on installing Microsoft's SP's & stuff. Also, I make full use of IE's security zones. Namely, I keep the Internet Zone set at HIGH SECURITY, & the Trusted Zone set at LOW.

Be informed that setting the security on Internet Zone to HIGH will result in LOTS of pop-up warnings upon first visiting a website. However, there is a way to keep this relatively pain-free. Namely, I use "Jason's Trust Setter" to easily add sites to the Trusted Zone, or Restricted Zone. It works just fine on MyIE2. I got it free from...

Also, OP itself is a real *tiger* at keeping any & all active content at bay unless I say okay.

Plus I use ADinf [integrity checker] and ERS [disaster recovery system], over & above *the usual* security stuff.

Also, I am a very nice old man, & cute to boot [young chicks pinch my cheeks] so.... who would want to mess with me?

Hi

I have been using Pay Pal for a few years with no problems.

Ebay just acquired them and are working hard to keep it secure and user friendly. :)
