Configure OSS rules for Bonjour/mdnsresponder.exe

I have iTunes and several Adobe applications on my PC which install and make some use of Bonjour & MDNSResponder.exe. I am reluctant to uninstall or disable this service as other users report problems with iTunes if they do so.

However OSS Pro 2009 gives me repeated prompts to create new rules for mdsnResponder.exe, always citing a different inbound UPD port (usually a high number > 50000).

What should I do about this? Is it safe to configure an application rule allowing all inbound UDP from DNS on any port for MdnsResponder.exe?

Help would be much appreciated.

Re: Configure OSS rules for Bonjour/mdnsresponder.exe

mdnsresponder? bonjour? try a search here. don't use it myself, but in general:

for generic rules for the app when it asks, select the custom option, untick the port box before ok'ing

for an application's dns rules, untick the direction box, ie.

protocol=udp
remote={dns_server macro}
port= dns (53)
allow

p.s. - one of the search threads on mdnsresponder references it trying to send non-dns packets on the dns port, which is a no-no.
