OP Firewall Clean install stops browsers working
I have been a OP customer for quite a few years now, and been pleased with it. Recently upgraded to windows7, and have now got round to installing the latest OP Pro Firewall 6.7.1 (2983.450.0714)
Did a default install with "Normal Settings" rebooted, and now none of my browsers are working! My default home page is www.google.co.uk, and I can ping that fine, but IE8, Google Chrome, and Opera don't work at all. When I ping www.google.co.uk that works fine. Avast works fine, and downloads updates OK. When I disable the firewall all works again. Not a great 1st start with OP on Win7 My setup:- 32 Bit Win7 Ultimate, Avast Home edition (wth exclusion for OP install dir) Standard Outpost Pro install with all default options selected. Wired ethernet connection to router. Nothing obvious in the logs that anything's dramatically wrong. My renewal's due in the next couple of weeks and if this is how things are then not much point in me renewing. Hopefully someone can help me out here. |

Re: OP Firewall Clean install stops browsers working
If browsers don't work then something has to be misconfigured and the logs should reflect that fact. The easiest way around this is to set the firewall on auto-learn via right clicking the tray icon and then open each browser. Once connected turn off auto learn and go see what it did.

Re: OP Firewall Clean install stops browsers working
Well the auto-learn mode didn't have any effect. Still not working.

Re: OP Firewall Clean install stops browsers working
Then it's a mess. Start a new configuration with auto-learn on. That should do it but make sure your machine is not infected in any way with malware.

Re: OP Firewall Clean install stops browsers working
Yep.. Looks like a duff install the sandbox log had things like
Quote:
The only two changes I made were:- 1) Not to install the spyware add-in as I already have something similar from the avast virus scanner 2)To put outpost in learning mode for 1 week which I didn't in my 1st install. Looks OK so far with the basics more to do to test though yet. Thanks for the response. |
