adpatch v2
So Outpost v2 is out.
I would expect significant changes to the ADBLOCK feature of OP, as I am sure lots of people would also, judging by the threads and discussions on this forum (I believe there is also a wish list for this). That is not the case, as ADBLOCK appears to be mostly unchanged. Considering that there is no idea on when Agnitum is going to address this issues, and also because there were some requests, I decided to make a new version of adpatch. You'll find the original thread about adpatch here . This new version 2 applies the patch both to Outpost version 1 (ADBLOCK.DLL version 1.0.242) and Outpost v2 (ADBLOCK.DLL version 2.0.290). Further versions of the DLL will be supported by new issues of adpatch, while necessary. This new version addresses also the issue of some [AD]s not being suppressed, as reported by n0ticer in another thread , so users of OP v1 may also benefit from this new patch. As in the original version of adpatch: "Just put it on the same directory ADBLOCK.dll is and run it. You'll get that file renamed and a new edited one in it's place. Restart Outpost and you're set." You'll most likely find the ADBLOCK.dll file in the following directories: OP v1: \Program Files\Agnitum\Outpost Firewall 1.0\Kernel OP v2: \Program Files\Agnitum\Outpost Firewall\Kernel As usual, please report your results, whether good or bad. Hello hayc59,
I never thought I'd have to do this, but since I'm all for making people's lives easier, here it goes: "The ADpatch Photographic Guided Tour". For motivation, I'm including some snaps of a website featuring advertising (Image1) and how it becomes if we turn on the standard adblock plugin (Image2). Ugly huh? To install the patch, put the executable in the Kernel directory as shown (Image4), run it (Image5), and you'll get a safety copy of your old adblock.dll (ADBLOCK-orig.dll) along with a new, patched, version (Image6). The same filtered webpage has now a new cleaner look (Image3), although the results will vary with the webpage. Of course, this is no solution to the ad filtering problem, only a small improvement. The real solution would be a real adblocking plugin. Still... better than nothing :-) Best regards, António Vilela |

Hi ajvilela,
Thanks for the informative update. Hopefully Agnitum will similarly modify their Ad Blocking plugin in the near future. Have a good day.

As you can see from my above post, I installed ajvilela's adpatch yesterday. Just a few minutes ago I got an update notice from Agnitum, that there was a newer version of the adpatch and would I like to upgrade. I of course said yes.
I'm a little confused. Why is Agnitum notifying me of an updated adpatch that someone else created? I'm not complaining, just trying to figure things out. ![]() EDIT: After installing the update, I see the "AD", "IMG" things again. Re-installed the adpatch, and things are good again. Can someone please explain?

Hobnob,
I can explain. The update utility will only consider original Agnitum files as legitimate. So if the update routine compares your ad blocking dll to the one on record, it will not recognize it. As a result, if you allow the update, the file will be replaced with the most current and legitimate ad blocking dll. The same thing happens if you create your own preset.lst. If you try to update, Agnitum will not recognize the file and try to update/correct the file. There is ALWAYS a price to pay with "workarounds" like this. For Outpost, this is one of the costs. I recommend that you do not use the "automatic update" and just check Agnitum or the forum to learn when an update is released.

Hi David. Thanks for the explanation.
I just discovered another little problem when running the adpatch script. My AV, Panda Platinum, has a script blocking option. When it is enabled, it won't let the adpatch load. I don't think I want script blocking disabled. So I might just go back to running Outpost Pro in it's original state. |

Hi Hobnob,
Sounds good to me. And, it looks like your AV is working well. I do not think that "[AD]" placeholder looks so bad. At least not bad enough to alter the original application. ![]() The decision is yours. Have a nice day.
