Question acs.exe (Agnitum Client Security Service)

Greetings...

I've noticed that this process (acs.exe) sometimes asks for outbound connections. So I've curious -- is it really needs them? And what this process is -- or I can shut down it?

Best regards...

It is needed for updating of Presets, Spyware database etc.

Therefore it must have internet connection.

Re: acs.exe (Agnitum Client Security Service)

acs.exe is the main firewall component service, so you probably should not try to stop it

op_mon.exe is the gui part.

in earlier versions they were both internal modules of outpost.exe which was a bit confusing as outpost.exe's function was either service/gui depending on startup switches.

Question Re: acs.exe (Agnitum Client Security Service)

when i open a pdf in acrobat pro 6, this acs.exe takes a lot of cpu peak, why ?

when i use earlier version of outpost (security suite 2007), its ok and has tolerable cpu usage,
i notice op_mon.exe also use much more cpu usage compared to version 2007,
i already disabled logging setting btw ...

my pc is very old,
p3 550
512 mb
win xp to latest update
only install office, acrobat pro, ym, rar, firefox, sound driver,

thanks,

Re: acs.exe (Agnitum Client Security Service)

while your pc meets the minimum requirements to run xp pro or home and OP2008, the minimum is listed as a 450mhz cpu & 256 mb ram. your pc is not much above that so will have some performance tradeoffs to run the OS, OP, and any other apps at the same time (like a browser or office) this will also result in higher cpu useage to keep switching stuff around, and should also be increasing disk virtual memory useage as well. it'll work but the performance will suffer. each 'update' to ms systems seems to require more cpu power and more ram. the spec i'm running (see below) seems slow sometimes if i'm doing more than one thing. i blame vista myself.

Question Re: acs.exe (Agnitum Client Security Service)

what if i do some way to make my pc better, like
1. using fresh old original xp (before sp2), and use latest outpost ss, and make sure no such thing will degrade performance, such as windows update, just put only necessary thing with strict diet.
2.

i was using win 2k server, but i move to xp for some reasons, i use outpost because of performance issue too, i found it very light, but this version (+ latest all xp update) beginning unacceptable to use,

- since i have outpost ss do all the security work, can i ignore critical updates for windows, such as sp2 etc ? (since the outpost ss is my guardian/manager),
so what i do is, just make sure my outpost ss is tight and no need to take alot of concern on os part, what do you think ?
- do you have any recommended site how to tweak win xp ?

(if you are right about more windows update, consume more performance, which i believe so, but i dont have any facts about this, do you have link on this ?)
im getting to feel that windows update just useless, i use pc just for ordinary task, no special think

well this would not be a problem if i just buy new pc, but i cant buy one for now...

Re: acs.exe (Agnitum Client Security Service)

Unfortunately, it's a fact that as hardware has gotten cheaper, software demands creep up so that it takes more hardware to get better performance. It's the way programmers write their programs. Hardly anybody does things in machine language anymore.

It's not so much the updates but the fundamental changes in operating system. Vista just requires more hardware then XP for example. In fact, I recommend that you update your XP system with all updates in order to block any security flaws that have been fixed. If you have XP without the service packs then you have lots of flaws in the system. Even with OP you should close those security holes since OP can't do everything.

The one thing you might try is to double your memory. More memory usually makes a PC feel faster because it can handle more tasks. It's a cheap enough upgrade.
