Outpost taskbar Icon

Where can I find the meaning of the different colors that the Icon changes to. Sometimes, when I have been in entertainment mode, and then leave it, the Icon is a different color and the firewall policy will have been greyed out.
OS=WinXP Pro/w/IE7
App Version= v6.0.2162 Outpost Security Suite

Re: Outpost taskbar Icon

Hello jevernew,

Try the built-in Help, search for Firewall Policy, choose Selecting the Firewall Policy, in right pane click Outpost Pro Policies. A screen will appear with the various colours. Screeshot attached.

Hope this helps.

Taskbar Icon revisited

After initial post, it appeared that my icon was the right color and all was well. After securing the PC, and rebooting later, the color change was red, and not providing any protection. After considerable reading, and after the great post by David concerning Uninstall/Reinstall, I realized that I had hosed myself with an improper install.
Using sysRestore, I went back to a good boot, I thought, and rebooted. At that time, I was getting an unrelated error message plus I was being asked to re register my Outpost product. After entering my key, it still did not function correctly. I suspended protection and completely reinstalled OSS8 over itself, and now the application seems to function correctly, but I now have about 60Mb in my program folder, instead of the 30+Mb size it is supposed to be. Will that cause me any grief?

Re: Taskbar Icon revisited

System restore isn't meant to uninstall programs. It leaves many things behind. But I'm not sure what's left behind since that's such a significant size difference and since an over install should have rewritten everything. So I guess the answer is it depends on what was left behind. It seems to me that if you aren't getting any errors then it's OK. However, I certainly would feel better if the install is done properly given the history here.

Re: Outpost taskbar Icon

Manny, the D/L size of the OSS is 30.3Mb. One of the things that got me into this mess was my original install somehow got corrupted, kept going off its protection, and the icon would change color, and I couldn't get it reset for very long before it was acting up again. I tried to do an uninstall and was told that the Uninstall utility was not found. I looked in the folder, and the size of the uninstall file was zero. I followed some instructions that were posted by an administrator (David), but there were still many remnants of the application left. That is when I thought about going back to a point where things had worked right. No joy, there, either. Then I remembered that over installing an application would rewrite or overwrite. I tried that, and wound up with the double size app.
I would like to completely uninstall the program and start over, but I cannot seem to find any way to get it off my Hard drive. I tried RegCleaner, I tried jv tool, I tried the microsoft remove program, and nothing seemes to completely rid the system of the remnants.
I'm ready for any good suggestions.

Re: Outpost taskbar Icon

I don't have OSS installed but my OP install takes about 41MB with a download size of around 21MB. Perhaps yours isn't so much off the mark at that. Let me suggest that before you go to any further trouble and since you aren't having problems that we verify what that number should be.

Either somebody with OSS install can come by and say the size of their install or you can ask Agnitum directly what it should be: Agnitum Online Support Form Possibly you have no real problem at all.

Re: Outpost taskbar Icon

Thanks Wayne. I see that your total is around 60MB as well. So Jevernew it looks like your install is about the right size. Leave it then and see how the product works for you. It looks like a good install.

Re: Outpost taskbar Icon

Thanks for the support, guys. As I write this. unfortunately, I am reformatting my primary PC. Something ate me up, and all of a sudden, I had no security, no operating system, etc. Fortunately, I only lost about 24 hours of personal stuff. Thanks for the help

Personally, I find the the OP taskbar colors a bit deceiving. I know the familiar color is blue but when I move the bar to Block Most, the icon turns green, and when I block all the icon is black. I think the normal default color should be green. 'Block most' setting should be yellow and 'Block all' should be red. Like as in a traffic light.

Is there a way to configure these icon colors ourselves?

Re: Outpost taskbar Icon

One could probably use a resource editor to change the icons. It is done often enough.

Block Most is the suggested/preferred mode of operation and so it has the green light. This indicates things are well.

Allow All is dangerous and thus gets the red - Stop this is bad thing. The color signifies the danger. A red light for a traffic signal does mean stop, but the color was chosen to warn of the danger.

Thanks for the tip. Actually now that you explain it logically, the color scheme makes sense to me now. Thanks for taking the time to post.
