Question System (port 1030)

Today, while browsing, oupost popped up:
Application: System
Protocol:TCP
Direccion:Inbound
Remote Host:baym-cs43.msgr.hotmail.com
Local Port: 1030

I don't know exactly what it is, but, for the moment i deny it.
I guess it has something to do with microsoft messenger (it says msgr.hotmail) but messenger is one of the totally allowed applications for me, so, i don't understand why is this message appearing.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

PD: Special thanks to your efforts doing a secure outpost ruleset for svchost.exe

Hi Hal,

I have searched extensively regarding the "System" process and port 1030, among other ports. Generally, the only connection attempts to the System Process that I ever get are for port 1030. And, as much as I have searched, I have found very little useful information. I also have this blocked with one difference from the rule you stated. I would open the Outpost GUI, from the menu choose Options -> Applications. Then, find the entry for System and open your rule. In the top box, UNCHECK 'Where the host is'. Then click OK to save the rule, click Apply and click OK to close the Options window. Your new rule for System should now read:

Where the protocol is: TCP
Where the direction is: Inbound
Where the local port is: 1030
Deny It

That is the same rule that I use. If I am able to find any more information on the nature of the 'System' process and ports, I will let you know. In the meantime, the rule listed above should take care of any unwanted connections to TCP port 1030 of the System process and should not disable your PC in any way.

Have a good night.

Thanks for your answer.
I've modified my rule as you told.
Let's see if some could find more information about that port (and what system does with it).

Hi Hal,

Glad you found the advice useful. If you have any other questions, just ask. Also, I will continue to look for information specifically on the System process and get back to you if I discover any new information. Have a good day.
