How to troubleshoot high CPU usage problem?

NB! Please do not forget to restart Outpost GUI after each change in the configuration.

If you have Components Control turned ON

Symptom:
CPU load jumps up when application connects to internet first time after its launch

Workaround:
Turn Components Control OFF (Options/Applications/Components/Component Control Level is OFF)

The kernel of the problem:
Part of the launched application's components located on the media with slow access or antivirus monitor slows down access to the media.

If you have a lot of ICMP activity in Network Activity window

Workaround:
Turn ICMP presentation in Network Activity and ICMP logging OFF. Set [netstat] HideIcmpActivity=yes in Outpost.ini.

The kernel of the problem:
Each ICMP packet is represented in Network Activity and by the Logging System as a 'pseudo' connection and this may lead to performance decrease.

If you have a lot of non-TCP,UDP,ICMP activity in Network Activity Window

Workaround:
Turn non-TCP,UDP,ICMP presentation in Network Activity and logging OFF for these protocols. Set [netstat] HideIpActivity=yes in Outpost.ini

The kernel of the problem:
Each IP packet is represented in Network Activity and by the Logging System as a 'pseudo' connection and this may lead to performance decrease.

Note
The Rules Wizard mode will be disabled for non-TCP,UDP,ICMP protocols.

If you have Network Activity logging ON
Workaround:
Turn Network Activity logging off:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Agnitum\Outpost Firewall\General EnableNetstatLogging: DWORD = 0

AND
Outpost.ini
[General]
EnableLogging=0

The kernel of the problem:
If Network Activity logging turned on a lot of data is recorded to log.

If non of the above helped

1. Turn Network Activity Logging ON HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Agnitum\Outpost Firewall\General EnableNetstatLogging: DWORD = 1

AND

Outpost.ini
[General]
EnableLogging=1

2. Restart Outpost
3. Use your network for about 5 minutes until the CPU load becomes high
4. Exit Outpost
5. Submit ticket at http://www.agnitum.com/support/supportform.html and send us:[list=1]
