Registry Keys

Bottom

Here is some information about the Registry keys that Outpost uses. Agnitum propaply would not recommend you alter them, and how doing so will affect Outpost I couldn't say.

Not all keys are here, either because their purpose is obvious or I haven't discerned any notible change after altering their value.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Agnitum\dns_int\DnsPage

SortColumn

This key controls the sorting of the DNS Cache plugins Options window. I believe there are 4 options

  1. Set to 0 this key causes sorting to be done on the * column
  2. Set to 1 this key causes sorting to be done on the DNS (host) column
  3. Set to 2 this key causes sorting to be done on the IP column
  4. Set to 3 this key causes sorting to be done on the Date/Time column

I have had mine set to 1 for some time (it makes it easier to find a web site when I want to delete one from the cache) and haven't experienced any problems caused by changing this value.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Agnitum\Outpost Firewall\Engine

ShowLog

This key seems to enable/disable a plugin called Log. Setting this keys value to 1 causes the Log plugin to appear in the Plugins tree. Below is a sample of the Log plugins output in the Log window:

[Log plugin]

I have know idea what this plugins usefulness is, in fact it may not be of any use to anyone (which may be why it was disabled by default), though maybe plugin writers may find it useful. Looking at it, I think it may have been an early version of the Debug plugin.

EnableBackup

Changing this keys value to 1 will cause Outpost to create a backup of the current config file when you load or save it. They are stored with the extension .backup in the same folder that the config file is in.

This is quite useful as before enabling this I have been making backups manually which is a chore when I make a change to the configuration of Outpost.

GroupAppByModuleName

This alters the way applications are grouped in the connection monitors (like All Connections). By default Outpost just lists each application (module) once and displays all information for that module in the one entry.

What this means is that if you have four Internet Explorer windows open you will see only one listing for Internet Explorer in the connection monitors and selecting the module will display all the connections for all four instances of Internet Explorer. Changing this keys value to 1 will cause all module instances to appear in All Connections, so if you have four Internet Explorer windows open you will have four instances appearing in All Connections with each instance showing only that windows connections.

SendRulesAtStartup

This is the registry key that gets turned on or off when you enable or disable Apply rules without need of interface on the 'General' tab in Outpost's Options window.
