Preset RulesPreset rules in this section are based on the preset.lst file dated 13-09-2002 Once you get used to using Outpost using the rules presets you will probably start seeing the same rules being used over and over again while some never seem to get used. So what rules are safe to delete and what can be done to the rules you keep to make you more secure? This section will tell you, the subsections are named as they appear in preset.lst (the file in Outpost's install folder that contains the preset rules). You should occasionally check out the Rules Creation category at Agnitum's Support Forum's . At the top of this category you will find updated preset.lst files. The thread will show you what has been added by listing the changes. New applications that now have preset rules are indicated by the + symbol, existing presets that have been modified are indicated by the * symbol. To use the new file. Download the list file and shutdown Outpost. Copy it to Outpost's directory (say 'Yes' to the window asking if you want to replace the existng preset.lst file) and restart Outpost. If you don't want to do this because you think you might do it wrong and damage Outpost, just wait until the next release of Outpost when the new list file will be included. NB: After using the new list file Agnitum Update will report your preset.lst file as being out of date. Don't download the one it says is newer as this will overwrite the one you have downloaded with the older one you have just replaced. Agnitum Update will tell you it is out of date because it only knows whether a file is correct based on the ones it has on the update server. If your files are different it assumes that they are out of date. ApplicationsIf your not sure what type of application it is your interested in seeing the rules for, but you know the applications name you get to the relevant rules by following one of the links below: There are also the following presets for generic application types:
E-mail Client There are also the following presets for global rules that you may have disabled or blocked that an application may need. They are provided to allow you to create this rules on an application-by-application basis quickly. If a lot of the applications start trying to use these rules, you might want to consider enabling the equivalent Global Application and System Rules: I don't use every app that there are presets for. If you have more info about what a rule is for please let me know! |
