New configuration creates a new config file for you to start adjusting based on Outpost's default configuration. Use different config files for each user of your computer, this allows different users to have their own preferred setup without losing the configuration setup of other people. Load configuration loads a new config file into Outpost. The config file stores everything including plugin settings, Ads plugin strings and web site entries in the Active Content plugin. It's good practice to Save configuration regularly, you never know when you will get a powercut - use this menu option all the time! Save configuration as... use this when you want to make a new config file that is based on the current loaded config file. Below this are the most recently used config files, clicking on any of these will load the config file into Outpost. Always on top keeps the Outpost window above all other windows. Exit will kill Outpost's GUI but not the engine. To kill the GUI and Outpost's engine use Outpost's System tray Context menu and select Exit and Shutdown Outpost. View Menu
Sort By -> allows you to change the sorting parameters of connections shown in the connection monitors, you can choose various sorts like 'Application', 'Remote Port' etc., and the sort can be 'Ascending' or 'Descending'. Group By -> gives you the option to group connections shown in the connection monitors, the grouping options available depend on what connection monitor you have highlighted. Columns... allows you to configure which columns are visible for which ever log/plugin you have selected. Use this option to remove columns for a less cluttered display or to add columns to see more information. Don't be afraid to remove columns, you won't loose any information, Outpost will continue to log a columns information even if you don't have that column visible. Filter... opens up the Filter window allowing you to specify a custom filter to the Allowed, Blocked and Reported Logs. Layout... opens the Layout window. Use this to turn off parts of the GUI like the left panel or the shortcut button bar. The Layout window also allows you to display more connection monitors alongside All Connections. Language -> allows you to select which language the interface uses. Tools Menu
Clear All Log Information wipes your logs clean. Export Log Files... saves all log information as several text files in a directory of your choice. Options Menu
General... opens the Options window with the 'General' tab selected. Application... opens the Options window with the 'Application' tab selected. System... opens the Options window with the 'System' tab selected. Policy... opens the Options window with the 'Policy' tab selected. Plug-Ins Setup opens the Options window with the 'Plug-Ins' tab selected. Help Menu
Contents and Index opens Outposts help file which will help you when ever you have a problem. Context Help should be used when you want to know what a specific area or item does, select this option or click on the 'What's This' button (it's the button with the question mark (?) on and is available on some windows) and then click on the subject you want to know more about. Read Me displays Outpost's readme file for you to inspect. Automatically check for Update when checked makes Outpost check for updates at each boot, you will be notified if there are any. Unless you have an 'always on' connection to the internet it is probably best to turn this option off (un-check). Outpost Firewall on the Web -> gives you quick access to various Outpost related web pages. About Outpost Firewall displays the About box (well what else did you think it would do!). The About box also displays your current version of the Outpost engine and drivers. |
