[Application Tab]

Application options

This tab is where you can see all the applications known to Outpost as well as where to go when you want to create Application Rules - rules that apply just to one application - if you want rules to apply to all applications you should create a System Rule. The applications will be in one of three sections.

[Blocked applications icon] Blocked applications

These are applications you don't want to have access to the Internet. Outpost will stop all communication, inbound and outbound, for applications in this section. No rules can be created for applications in this section, logging of activity for applications in this section will appear as Block all activity for (application name) in the Blocked log.

[Partially allowed applications icon] Partially allowed applications

This is where most of your applications will end up, all applications in this section require rules.

[Trusted applications icon] Trusted applications

These are applications you want to have unrestricted access to the Internet. Outpost will allow all communication, inbound and outbound, for applications in this section. No rules can be created for applications in this section, logging of activity for applications in this section will appear as Allow all activity for (application name) in the Allowed log.

Adding Applications

You can manually add applications by highlighting Blocked applications, Partially allowed applications or Trusted applications and clicking on the 'Add' button. You then need to browse to the application that you want added.

Collapsing sections

After a while you'll have many applications listed in the 'Applications' tab:

[Application Tab with many applications]

To make it easier to see applications in a section you can collapse all the other sections by double clicking on the sections names, below you can see how this has let you view all the partially allowed applications while hiding all the blocked applications:

[Application Tab with sections collapsed]

Outpost comes with preset rules for many applications to make creating rules easier for you, but if you want you can make rules yourself.
