General options

This tab covers options to do with logging, password protection and start up preferences. It is split into 3 different sections:

Glossary Bottom Top

1 - Log file format

Clicking on the 'Log file settings...' button opens up the Log file settings window where you can specify how big in Kilo Bytes the log file should be (1024 KB = 1 MB) and how many days the information should be kept for, if you prefer you can have Outpost stick to the size limit an delete old entries once the log buffer is full:

2 - Miscellaneous

This section contains check boxes that toggle how Outpost is run:

  • Run automatically at boot-up
Toggles whether Outposts GUI is loaded when Windows boots.
  • Minimize to System Tray
When toggled makes Outpost disappear to the System Tray when you click on the 'Minimize' button instead of to the Task Bar, saving you space on your Task Bar for other applications.
  • Close button minimizes, not exits interface
Will stop you being able to accidentally close Outpost by clicking on the 'Close' button. When enabled this option will make the 'Close' button act as 'Minimize'.
  • Apply rules without need of interface
When checked means that the Outpost engine will still apply the rules whether you have the Outpost GUI set to run at boot or not.

This means that if you have Run automatically at boot-up unchecked and Apply rules without need of interface checked all rules will still be applied even though the GUI is not loaded. In this setup Outpost is running in [Block Most mode icon] Block Most mode and any applications that you haven't already created rules for will not be able to make connections. So if you have Run automatically at boot-up and Apply rules without need of interface unchecked then you will be effectively running without a firewall.

3 - Password protection

Here you can specify whether a password is needed to alter Outpost's settings or create/modify rules.
