There are two sections to the DNS Cache plugin options:

1 - DNS Cache

This part of the 'DNS' tab allows you to alter your settings for caching DNS Records. Caching can be enabled or disabled by toggling Enable DNS Caching. If you enable caching you can set a limit for the maximum number of records to keep in the buffer at any one time, if you don't do this Outpost will keep on adding entries. This could take up a lot of memory so I recommend you set a limit even if it is to something quite high like 1000. If you want to you can also have Outpost delete records after a set amount of days. The cache is a FIFO buffer (First In, First Out) and as the buffer gets full the first entry added will be the first to be deleted.

2 - DNS Records

Here is a list of all records in the Cache. You can remove entries manually if you would like by highlighting a row and clicking on the 'Remove' button.

DNS Cache Log

There are 4 columns in the DNS log

  1. Date/Time
This is the Date and Time the Event occurred.
  2. Domain Name
This is the host name associated with the IP address
  3. Event
This describes what happened to the Domain Name in relation to the cache.

New Record means the Domain Name wasn't in the DNS Cache before and has now been added to the cache.

Cache Hit occurs whenever a Domain Name that is looked up is already in the DNS Cache.

Record Deleted happens when the Domain Name has been removed from the cache because the cache has reached the maximum number of entries allowed under the DNS Cache's settings.

  1. IP
This is the IP address(es) associated with the Domain Name.
